Terms & Conditions
888 Car Hire Pty Ltd — ACN 689 743 066. Last updated October 2026. These terms apply to all vehicle hire arrangements with 888 Car Hire. A separate hire agreement is signed at vehicle collection and forms part of your contract with us.
1. Hire agreement
A booking is confirmed when we send you a written confirmation by email or message. Full terms specific to your hire — including vehicle details, hire period, agreed rate, and any special conditions — are set out in the hire agreement you sign at the time of vehicle collection.
The hire agreement, together with these terms and conditions, forms the entire agreement between you and 888 Car Hire Pty Ltd. In the event of any conflict, the hire agreement takes precedence.
2. Eligibility
To hire a vehicle from us, you must:
- Be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire. Drivers aged 21–24 may be subject to a young driver surcharge on certain vehicles.
- Hold a current, full Australian driver's licence valid for the class of vehicle being hired. Overseas visitors must hold a valid international driving permit alongside their home-country licence.
- Provide a valid form of photo ID (e.g. driver's licence or passport).
- Not be impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any medical condition that affects your ability to drive safely.
Only drivers listed on the hire agreement are authorised to drive the vehicle. Unlisted drivers are strictly prohibited.
3. Payment
The hire rate is as quoted at the time of booking confirmation. Payment is due on collection of the vehicle, or as otherwise agreed in writing.
We accept bank transfer and cash. A bond or security deposit may be required for certain vehicles or hire periods — this will be communicated prior to your booking being confirmed.
The bond will be returned at the end of the hire period, subject to the vehicle being returned in the same condition as collected (fair wear and tear excepted), with the correct fuel level, and with no outstanding charges.
4. Fuel
The vehicle will be provided to you with a specified fuel level (typically full or a nominated level). You must return the vehicle with at least that same fuel level. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, we will charge you for the cost of refuelling, plus a reasonable refuelling service fee.
5. Damage and accidents
You are responsible for any loss or damage to the vehicle that occurs during your hire period, including damage caused by a third party where you are unable to provide sufficient details to pursue recovery.
All vehicles carry comprehensive insurance. An excess applies in the event of an at-fault accident or where the damage is not recoverable from another party. The excess amount is detailed in your hire agreement.
If the vehicle is involved in an accident, breaks down, or is damaged in any way, you must notify us immediately by phone. Do not leave the scene of an accident without exchanging details with the other party and, where required, contacting Victoria Police. Do not authorise any repairs without our prior written consent.
You must not use the vehicle off-road, for towing (unless expressly permitted in writing), for any unlawful purpose, or in a manner that voids the vehicle's insurance coverage.
6. Cancellation and no-shows
If you need to cancel your booking, please contact us as soon as possible. We ask for at least 24 hours' notice prior to your scheduled collection time.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, or where you fail to appear for your scheduled collection without prior notice, may result in forfeiture of your deposit or a cancellation fee. The specific amount will depend on the circumstances and will be communicated to you at the time of booking.
We reserve the right to cancel a booking where we have reasonable grounds to do so (e.g. the vehicle is unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances). In such cases, we will give you as much notice as possible and offer an alternative vehicle or a full refund of any deposit paid.
7. Not-at-fault hires (credit hire)
If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident that was not your fault, you may be entitled to a replacement vehicle at no cost to you, with costs recovered from the at-fault party's insurer. 888 Car Hire provides credit hire (also known as accident replacement or not-at-fault hire) for eligible customers.
By entering into a not-at-fault hire arrangement, you agree to:
- Provide us with accurate details of the accident, including the at-fault party's insurance information and any police event numbers.
- Co-operate fully with us and any solicitors or claims agents acting on our behalf in recovering hire costs from the at-fault insurer.
- Not settle or compromise any related insurance claim without notifying us first.
- Understand that if costs cannot be recovered from the at-fault insurer (for example, because you provided incorrect information or the fault is disputed and found against you), you may become personally liable for the hire costs.
All other terms in this document apply equally to not-at-fault hires unless otherwise agreed in writing.
8. Use of the vehicle
You agree to use the vehicle lawfully, carefully, and in accordance with all applicable road rules. You must not:
- Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Allow an unlisted driver to operate the vehicle.
- Use the vehicle for any form of racing, speed testing, or driver training.
- Transport hazardous or illegal goods.
- Drive the vehicle outside of Australia.
- Smoke in the vehicle. A cleaning fee applies if this condition is breached.
9. Return of the vehicle
You must return the vehicle on the agreed date and time, to the agreed location, in a clean condition and with the agreed fuel level. Late returns without prior agreement may result in additional daily hire charges being applied.
If you need to extend your hire period, please contact us as early as possible. Extensions are subject to availability and our agreement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, 888 Car Hire Pty Ltd is not liable for any indirect, consequential, or special loss or damage arising from the hire of a vehicle, including loss of income or business opportunities.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee or right that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.
11. Governing law
These terms and conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes arising in connection with these terms are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
